Our School Policies
These policies apply to the administration of every course offered by 1st Coast School. No written or verbal statement made by a registrar or instructor overrides the policies set out below.
Tuition- Full tuition must be paid before any class begins. Tuition is non-refundable and may change without notice.
Discounts or coupons – Discounts must be arranged before you register for a class. Coupons must be entered online during checkout.
Cancellation – To reschedule a class before its start date, notify the school at least 48 hours ahead of the class. Students may receive a tuition credit toward any other course taken within 6 months of the original class date. TUITION IS NOT REFUNDABLE.
Webinar Cancellation - Webinar email notifications are sent by GoToWebinar and state that cancellation is allowed at any time. That is NOT the policy of 1st Coast School. These emails are not created by the school and we do not control their content. Please refer to the cancellation policy above.
Refund Policy – Tuition cannot be refunded.
No Show - Students who miss class without making prior arrangements through the office forfeit their tuition.
Online Classes - The school is not responsible for computer issues, such as login problems, in online classes. Review the computer requirements listed on our website to confirm the computer you will use is compatible with the Citrix GoToTraining program and that the latest version of Java is installed. Students who cannot log in to an online course are treated as No Shows and forfeit tuition. Students understand that any course requiring an "Affidavit" MUST return the "Affidavit" to the school office within 5 days after completing the course to receive credit. Affidavits should be emailed to [email protected]
CE Webinars - Students must attend the webinar in full and submit a sworn affidavit to the school within 5 days after the webinar ends to receive course credit.
Friends and Family - A group of two or more attending the same licensing course on the same dates may apply for a 10% discount; groups of 5 or more may apply for up to a 20% discount. Every student in the group must preregister and pay tuition before class begins. For questions about special pricing for large groups, please call the office. No retroactive discounts are available.
NSF Returned Checks – A $35 fee applies to every returned check. Students remain responsible for all payments regardless of who paid the tuition, such as friends, relatives, companies, etc.
Books and Materials – The 1st Coast School Licensing Workbook is required for all licensing courses, whether taken in a classroom or as a webinar. State Manuals and the 1st Coast School Licensing Workbook may be purchased for licensing courses on the first day of class. Workbooks can only be ordered through 1st Coast School. All workbooks are used starting on the first day of class. PLEASE NOTE: Books, Workbooks, flashcards, and materials cannot be returned for a refund, even if a class is canceled. All of our class materials and Workbooks are protected by and fall within U.S. Copyright laws. We do not allow study aids from any other school in class. Please do not bring any other school's materials to class with you.
Receiving an Incomplete in a Licensing Course - A student who does not meet the minimum required hours for a licensing class or fails the course must complete the hours in the next available class and will be charged a transfer fee of $50.00 for the first transfer and $75.00 for each transfer after that. The hours must be completed, or tests/exams retaken, within 6 months of the original class end date.
Class Cancellation - The school generally does not cancel classes, but if we must cancel one, every registered student will be offered either a move to another class date or a tuition refund. All refunds must be issued in the same manner as the original payment. If payment was made by credit card, the refund must go to the same credit card account used for the original payment. Even when the school refunds tuition because of a class cancellation, we do not refund books, flashcards, and materials.
Hurricanes and tropical storms – The school makes every effort not to cancel classes, but hurricanes or tropical storms sometimes leave no choice. The school office monitors the weather in these situations and makes decisions based on the bulletins and warnings issued by each local government. If classes must be canceled, we try to reschedule them as quickly as possible once we are certain the storm has passed.
Tutoring - Private tutoring is available. There is a two (2) hour minimum. Tuition is not refundable. Instructors set aside time for private tutoring based on each student's request, so these special sessions cannot be canceled or rescheduled and students must be on time. The tutoring session begins at the agreed time. If the student is late, they will miss paid time that will not be made up. No shows forfeit the tuition.
Repeating Continuing Education Courses - Per Florida Statutes, students may not receive credit for repeating a continuing education course within a 24-month period. The school makes every effort to constantly update courses to try to keep this from happening. However, the school is not responsible for any student repeating a course within that 24-month period. All students must keep track of the courses they have taken and when they took them. Student transcripts, containing all courses taken, can be viewed in each student's records by going to "My Profile" on the Department of Financial Services website.
Cell phones – When entering class, cell phones must be turned off or set to silent. Students who break this rule will be asked to leave class and will not be allowed to return with the cell phone. These devices disrupt class.
Recording devices – No recording device of any kind, including voice, tape, cameras, video, camera phones, etc., is permitted in the classroom.
Computers – Laptops are allowed in class as long as they are used only for taking notes, do not distract other students and are not used inappropriately. If any of these policies is violated, the instructor will ask the student to remove the computer from the classroom.
Books, newspapers, magazines, paperwork – Per Florida Statutes, books, newspapers, magazines, paperwork, etc. are not allowed in continuing education classes. Students who bring any of these items to class will be asked to remove them.
Smoking – Smoking is not allowed inside any of our facilities. Smoking is allowed outside the building in designated areas, but we ask that you do not smoke near the entrances as a courtesy to other students.
Weapons – Under state law, weapons of any kind, including guns and knives, are not permitted in schools, even if you hold a concealed weapons permit. School policy also applies to off-duty law enforcement officers.
Disruptive Students – Instructors may dismiss students who are disruptive or act in a way that might harm another student; those students forfeit tuition for the class and their right to attend future classes.
Class Questions – We encourage questions as long as they relate to the material being discussed and are not situation “what if” type questions. Because time is limited, each instructor decides how many questions can be taken during class. Auditing students should defer to the current students in class and limit their questions.
Tests and Examinations – Tests and examinations are given in all licensing classes, and anyone caught cheating will be dismissed from class with no credit and no tuition refund. A final grade of 70 or above is required to receive certification for any licensing course.
Absences/Late to class – Florida Statutes govern the hours of all insurance classes. For continuing education, students must be on time per Florida Statutes or they will not be admitted to class and will forfeit tuition. For licensing classes, Florida Statutes require completion of at least 75% of the course hours for certification.
Dress – Students are asked to wear appropriate attire for class. Classroom temperatures may fluctuate, so please come prepared for both warmer and cooler conditions.
Classrooms – All students are asked to straighten their chairs and tables before leaving. Pick up any trash and put it in the trash can. Every class includes breaks so students can have snacks and drinks.
Vandalism – Any student found vandalizing the school in any way will be dismissed from class and will forfeit their tuition.
Parking – When walking to your car at night, use the “buddy” system for added safety. The school is not responsible for items left in cars, so keep valuables in a secure place.
Items left in classroom or office – The school is not responsible for items left in our facilities. Before leaving, check that you have all your valuables, books, etc.
These are the current policies governing the operation of 1st Coast School. From time to time, circumstances will require new policies to be added or current policies to be revised. All students should read and become familiar with them.
